  • Job Description

    Come join OD’s 2019 IT Summer Internship Program.  Old Dominion Freight Line is currently recruiting candidates for our Information Technology Internships.  The IT Internship program will involve working directly with OD’s IT department in developing and creating innovative technology solutions across multiple platforms. OD’s IT Internship is a great way to get working experience and knowledge of OD’s culture and our innovation in Transportation Technology while you get to leverage your creativity, teamwork, and problem solving skills.  This is a paid internship (40 hours per week for 12 weeks at $15.00/hour). During the program you will be assigned a mentor and report directly to one of OD’s IT Directors.  To start you off we provide 4 days of orientation where you will not only meet key leaders, but you will get to discover the world of transportation by touring our Greensboro service center and riding along with one of OD’s Pick-Up and Delivery drivers.  You will have regular follow-up discussions with your mentor and be expected to write monthly activity reports so you get the most out of OD’s Internship Program. 

     

    Interns will partner with OD’s IT department and work within a number of key areas such as:

    • Project Management
    • Application Development
    • Enterprise Architecture
    • Business Intelligence

     

    In your assigned department, you will have an opportunity to leverage your skills in the following technologies/practices:

      • Organization & Problem Solving – Illustrate your ability to identify the true problem at hand, breaking down the problem into achievable steps to ensure project success.  Learn how to effectively use the core tools of project management in order to prepare and plan for change.
      • Prioritization – Develop your ability to manage a deluge of data concerning a project and extract the useful information from the noise.
      • Adaptability – In a fast-paced environment, prove your ability to plan accordingly but adapt proficiently to changes and work with your team to overcome these challenges.

    Responsibilities

    • Participate in, and contribute to, the Solution Delivery Lifecycle for your assigned project
      • Meet with internal stakeholders to obtain business requirements for your assigned project
      • Complete project related duties on time
      • Collaborate with project team members to complete assigned project duties
      • Regularly meet with OD IT Mentor in order to report progress, learning, and concerns
    • Deliver a final presentation to the IT Leadership team covering your project and experience

    Qualifications

    Eligibility Requirements:

    • Candidate for Bachelors or Master Degree as a rising senior in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration or another related field of study
    • Minimum grade point average of 2.7 or higher
